FTAI

Throughout the years, FIRMASA Group has become one of the most successful technical teams in the development of Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI) in Brazil and Venezuela’s genetic programs. Instead of observing the ovulation period of a cow and trying to perform the insemination at the right time for each animal, FTAI massively induces the estrus of a heard of cows using hormones to synchronize them all. Through the application of this technique, FIRMASA Group is able to optimize human labor and technical resources to enhance production and performance by reducing calves births intervals while increasing the number of births per harvest seasons. All this helps simplify and condense the operations of the reproductive cycle for the season (births, weinings, weighings, etc.).

The IATF has been used in the beef cattle industry to simplify the use of artificial insemination; to make it economically feasible; to accelerate the improvement of the genetic line; to increase the pregnancy rate by 8%, to reduce the birth interval per sesason; to accelerate time of conception by 30 days; to concentrate the birthing seasons and weaning seasons to the best time of the year; to increase the weaning weights; to reduce the slaughtering age; to homogenize the seasonal harvest, the herd and its genetic line.

Starting in 2005, FIRMASA intensified the IATF programs, and, over the past seven years has seeded over 180,000 cows using this technique. The highly positive results for FIRMASA on these IATF projects are the results of its vast experience in the field, and its intense involvement in scientific studies, while providing efficient services, professionalism and economic feasibility to its customers.

The services provided by FIRMASA in the application of this biotechnology include:

  • Evaluation of frozen semen to be used.
  • Synchronization processes and insemination of cow herds, under the supervision of a FIRMASA veterinarian.
  • Gestational diagnosis, which is detected early with the help of an ultrasound.
  • Creation of detailed technical reports that include: efficiency and efectiveness in the application of procedures; and recommendations based on the results.
